Alumni Watch: Shaw & Venuto Receive Postseason Honors

Maryland freshman second baseman Matthew Shaw was named to the 2021 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American Team on Wednesday. In his first year with the Terps, Shaw helped the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017, making the Greenville Regional Final. The Brimfield, MA native led the team and ranked first among all Big Ten freshmen in batting average, hitting .332 over the spring. Matt was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Week at the end of May. He led the team in doubles with 16, which ranked second in the conference, while also leading the team and ranking second in the league in hits (61). Shaw slugged seven homers and stole seven bases, ranking fourth and fifth on the team.
Matt Venuto was named to the Austin Regional All-Tournament Team after replacing the injured MAAC Player of the Year behind the plate. Matt led the team with a .462 average in the tournament.
